Mike & Justine

Mike and I met back in primary school when we ended up in the same class back in grade 5, he ended up being my first “boyfriend” ,he used to call me and play songs over the phone that to this day my sister still remembers. After parting ways in primary schools to attend different high schools we crossed paths again in grade 10 where we started dating on the 11th of March 2001 , but let me get to the proposal...

One of my favorite places on earth is the African bush, last year June Mike had said to me that he wanted to try organize to go through to one of his clients game farms in August, which I was thrilled to do, all I was told was the dates and that it was a clients game farm. His story NEVER changed which never made me question anything but I was so looking forward to getting to the bush.

On Friday the 22nd of August I left work at 12h00 and Mike had always said we need to leave as early as possible as he had booked us on a game drive that he didn’t want us to miss. We started our journey to the bush and ended up at the Madikwe game reserve gates, still totally oblivious I asked whether he was lost and needed to ask for direction which he just answered no to. We arrived at Impidimo game lodge to an awesome welcome by the staff and asked to fill in our details for the game drives etc, this was when I realized that we weren’t going to his clients farm but staying there for the weekend. I was over the moon that he had arranged such an incredible weekend, Mike in general isn’t much of an organizer or a liar for that matter so I was very impressed that he managed to surprise me with all of this!

The game driver explained to us that the rest of the camp had already left for the game drive so we would have our own private drive for that evening, I was beaming J We went to our room, grabbed our jackets and climbed into the game vehichle, 10minutes into the drive we found a beautiful male lion that I was excited to see and sit and watch but the game ranger said we would miss the sunset if we stayed, this was strange seen I would have rather stayed to watch the lion but thought nothing of it, then we drove up the top of this hill where I could see a table for two set up with candles, champagne, roses, strawberries etc waiting for us. Mike and I climbed out of the vehichle and sat down watching the sunset and just enjoying the beauty of the bush, I honestly thought that I was the luckiest girl in the world that Mike had gone through all of this for me, I couldn’t have asked for a better weekend but all did I know it was just going to get better!

On arrival back at the camp we were welcomed with warm drinks and we went and sat on the balcony looking out onto the bush and then we were ushered back to our room. As we entered the room the curtains were opened revealing a dinner set up for just the two of us on our balcony. We sat down and started eating our soup and within 5minutes Mike started telling me that he loves me with all his heart and that he wants to spend the rest of his life with me and proceeded to get down on one knee and propose! I was ecstatic, burst into tears and just gave him the biggest hug, oh and of course said YES J It was truly the greatest weekend of my whole life!

Mike and I are getting married this October and I feel so blessed to be marrying my best friend and I couldn’t have ever asked for a better proposal than the one that I got!
